Lamia is situated along the National Road to Thessaloniki ( 214 km from Athens ). It can also be reached from Levadia.
It is an important road and rail junction and the starting point for excursions into the mountainous inland regions. Lamia itself is a pleasant town flanked by two pine-clad hills.
On the summit of one stands the Medieval fortress of Akrolamia.
The region’s favorite resort is Karpenissi, in the heart of Roumei. From Lamia, the road twists up the slopes of Mount Tymphristos for some 80 km before reaching this cool and beautiful mountain village surrounded by magnificent scenery and extensive views.
